DC Refined: Six spots with insta-worthy packaging

From DC Refined by Lani Furbank:
“Now that #foodporn reigns supreme on Instagram, eating has become a photo op above all else. Of course the food itself has to look mouthwatering, but restaurants are also stepping up their packaging game so a to-go order is ready for its close up before you even unwrap it.
Here are six spots with picture-perfect eye candy.
The star food group at Beefsteak comes to life on the fast casual restaurant’s to-go bags with whimsical veggie characters like a beefsteak tomato on stilts and a potato driving a carrot roadster. The illustrations were created by award-winning Spanish artists Juan and Alejandro Mingarro and their design studio, Brosmind.
This Cuban café models their to-go wrapping after iconic packaging from the island. The sandwiches are swaddled in paper inspired by the designs on cigar boxes, and pastries are delivered in the shop’s own version of traditional Cuban bakery bread bags. Empanadas and other fried treats nest in cheerful green berry baskets. The Colada Shop team collaborated with Bartlett Brands to create the products.
The posh boxes at this French bakery are collected by macaron enthusiasts around the world. When the two new D.C. locations of the brand opened in Georgetown and Union Station, they offered limited edition cherry blossom boxes. Now, the sweets are delicately packaged in one of two new boxes: a summery pool scene by Gray Malin and a design celebrating the art of @BarbieStyle. Of course, the classic boxes in pastel colors and various sizes for macarons, pastries, chocolates, and more are available year-round.”
