Eater DC: 18 Negronis to Knock Back Right Now

From Eater DC by Lani Furbank:

“Whereas others may have to wait for Negroni Week to roll around in order to quaff the iconic beverage, District menus are awash in the ultra-popular drink pretty much year-round. The simple and satisfying Italian cocktail is a crowd favorite when the weather warms up because it’s best enjoyed with a nice dose of sunshine and a soft breeze.

The traditional recipe contains just three ingredients: gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Of course, that doesn’t stop mixologists, bartenders, and mad cocktail scientists from experimenting with all kinds of variations on the theme. Some replace the gin with trendy spirits like mezcal or pisco, while others play around with infusions starring peanut or beet. Still others tweak the classic bitter or sweet components with counterparts like Chartreuse or locally made amaro.

The ingredients may be different, but the intent is typically the same — a slightly bitter apéritif that is the drink of the moment.

Here are 18 variations on the negroni mixed up all over town.”
