Happy Arbor Day!

If you’ve been following Lani’s Cup of Tea, you know that I hosted a workshop on behalf of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation with a lively bunch of Girl Scouts a few months ago. We learned all about water quality and how we can protect the Chesapeake Bay. Just last month, we worked together again on a very fun project…planting a riparian buffer in our neighborhood! We planted a total of 48 trees and shrubs!
In honor of Arbor Day today, take a look at how much fun these girls had planting trees!
Taylor from Releaf Fairfax did a great job explaining the proper technique… No constricted roots!
And then the girls were set loose to wreak havoc with hammers, shovels and plywood!
They were very proud of their hard work, and eager to come back in 10 or 15 years to see that it really paid off.
We all had a fantastic time, and we made our neighborhood stream a little healthier!
Nature is truly the greatest gift we have been given, so this spring, head outside and plant some trees to brighten up your yard or community!
